Employee Badge Set Up
In order to ensure employees are ready to use the clock, they must first have a Badge ID assigned to them. To add badges or check to see if badges are already assigned, navigate to Team > My Team > Employee Information.
Once there, the Badge field is usually listed as seen below on the Employee Information Report:
In order to add a Badge ID to the employee record, click on the employee info icon. On the Main Tab, navigate to Badges. Once there, enter the desired badge ID and Save.
Note: Badge IDs cannot start with a leading 0. Be sure to give managers Badge ID's as well as this will be needed for them to register fingers.
The Badge ID will be what the employee uses to set up finger print or if allowed, to punch in and out.
Manager Set Up
In order to tell the system if a user is a manager, in order to gain access to the manager settings on the physical clock, you must set them up inside their record. Find the Manager that should have access and click the employee information icon next to their name.
Locate Hardware Settings on the Main Tab. Change the dropdown for Security Level to Manager and save the record.
This setting is not needed for employees - only managers.
Enrolling Employees
To enroll a user in the clock, choose the Manager Login icon, or swipe the applicable badge, to enter the Manager Mode home
screen.

Enter your Badge ID followed by the clock password.
The Manager Mode home screen should include options for Enroll Finger and Unenroll Finger.
Tap the Enroll Employee icon.

To select the employee, use one of the
following methods:
- Swipe the employee's badge
- Enter the employee's badge ID
- Search by employee name
- Browse the employee list
Tip: If you select
an employee who is already enrolled, the enrollment summary page opens.
|
If the employee is already enrolled, the system offers you the
option of re-enrolling the employee’s primary or secondary finger.
Scan Finger
For scanning fingers, the device shows you a screen with 10
fingers, and asks you to select the primary finger you want to enroll.
The device guides you through the following enrollment process:
1. Tap
the target (+) that corresponds to the finger you are enrolling. In order of
preference, select your index finger, middle finger, or thumb.
Enroll your ring finger or pinky finger only if you cannot successfully enroll the other fingers. If you do tap the ring finger or pinky, a warning message displays; you can continue or change the finger.
2. Directly face the time clock so that you can comfortably place your finger on the sensor without awkwardly extending your arm or hand.
3. Position your finger core above the center of the sensor.
4. Place
your finger flat on the sensor. Do not twist, rotate, or slide your finger
while it is on the sensor. If your finger is positioned incorrectly, the system
instructs you to reposition it for a successful scan.
If the system directs you to reposition your
finger, do not slide the finger into place. Rather, lift your finger from the
sensor and then place your finger in the recommended position.
5. Apply firm, even pressure. If you apply too little pressure, the sensor might not detect your finger. If you apply too much pressure, the image might be too dark. In either case, the enrollment can fail.
6. Hold
your finger on the sensor until the image frame turns green, the LED flashes
green, and the timeclock emits a tone. Then remove it.
7. The
system grades the scan quality as Good, Fair, or Poor, and prompts you to
re-scan the same finger.
8. When
instructed, re-scan the same finger. Repeat the process until you have obtained
three successful scans. The system uses the three scans to create a single
template.
The results pages for the three scans include information about
enrollment, quality score, and threshold.
The results screens vary, depending on the enrollment score. This
table explains how to handle each type of score:
Score
| Action to take
|
Good Enrollment
| No action needed. After a few seconds, the confirmation screen
closes and you can move to any next steps.
|
Fair Enrollment
| Do one of the following:
Tap Retry: Re-scan the same finger and try
to achieve a Good enrollment.
Tap Change Finger: Select a different finger
to scan.
Tap Accept Best: If you have tried enrolling
each finger without achieving a Good enrollment, tap Accept
Best and then go to Confirm finger scan.
|
Poor Enrollment
| Do one of the following:
Tap Retry: Re-scan the same finger and try
to achieve a Good enrollment.
Tap Change Finger: Select a different finger
to scan.
Tap Accept Best: If you have tried enrolling
each finger without achieving a Good enrollment, tap Accept
Best. If you accept a Poor enrollment, you can use only finger mode
verification or finger mode identification with badge ID at the time clock.
This means that you must first swipe a badge or enter a badge ID before
scanning the finger that you enrolled. Go to Confirm finger
scan.
Tip: A low
quality score might indicate that your finger is too dry. |
|
Confirm Finger Scan
When you are prompted to confirm your finger scan, re-scan the same
finger that you used in the Scan Finger section. The device compares the
previously captured finger scan with your current live finger scan.
This table describes the possible results of the enrollment test
and the actions to take:
Result
| Action to take
|
Accepted
| If you have enrolled only a primary finger, the system prompts
you to enroll another, secondary finger. Tap Enroll Secondary
Finger and repeat the steps in the Scan Finger section for the
secondary finger.
Tap one of the following:
Yes: Return to Scan Finger and select another finger.
No: The enrollment process is completed.
|
Failed
| Do one of the following:
Tap Retry: Return to Scan
Finger and re-scan the same finger. Try to achieve an Accepted
enrollment test.
Tap Change Finger: Return to Scan
Finger and select a different finger.
|
If the employee fails the enrollment test three consecutive times
on a timeclock that is configured for finger mode verification, the system
prompts the manager to change the threshold or ask the employee to enroll a
different finger.
The employee should first attempt to successfully enroll any finger by tapping Change Finger before you consider lowering the threshold.
A lower threshold (Normal or Low) allows a wider variance between
the enrollment template and the live finger scan. This adjustment increases the
chance that the device accepts the employee’s scan results, but it also
increases the chance that the device incorrectly accepts another employee’s
finger scan.
Furthermore, if you lower the threshold from High, these templates
are ineligible for identification, but they can be used for verification or
identification with badge ID. If you set the threshold to None,
the device always accepts the employee’s scan result, regardless of its
quality. When you lower the threshold setting at this screen, it applies to the
current employee only.
Scan Identification with Badge ID
This feature is designed for employees who attempt to enroll for
finger, face, or hand identification, but whose finger scans are consistently
Poor.
The Scan Identification with Badge ID option allows organizations
to use InTouch DX timeclocks for employees who can only achieve Poor
enrollments by swiping a badge (or entering the badge ID) and then scanning a
finger.
After you complete the enrollment process for an employee, the
system prompts you to enroll another employee.
TouchFree ID Enrollment
To allow employees to
utilize the clock device without touching it, do the following:
1. From
the Enroll Employee screen on the device, select the employee you need
to enroll.
2. A
bioconsent message will display, and the employee will need to Accept or
Decline the consent. If they decline, the enrollment will not move forward. If
they accept, the enrollment will proceed.

3. Enroll
the employee by having them position their face in front of the camera. The
employee should look at the camera while enrolling the way that they would
naturally look at the display; their chin should not be tilted.
Tilting the chin up or down may achieve a good score, but future authentications may fail if the chin is tilted differently.
The employee should stand
within 30 inches (76 centimeters) of the clock. Have the employee move
closer if a good score cannot be achieved, or the rectangle is red instead of
green.
4. After first scan, the clock will confirm with a second scan. Once this is complete, you can hit the back arrow to leave
enrollment. Re-enroll the same employee or choose another employee to enroll.
TouchFree ID Enrollment FAQs
Minimum accepted enrollment quality score:
A score of 60 or higher is needed for identification mode. A lower score (40-59) can be used for biometric verification, but the
employee's Badge or ID will be required first.
Will glasses, headwear, or anything else affect enrollment and authentication?
Refer to the following tips:
• Employees who always wear glasses may enroll with glasses on. (Employees with poor eyesight may tilt head unnaturally
if they can't see the display). The system is designed to work well with glasses.
• It is recommended to remove glasses for enrollment for those who don’t always wear glasses.
• Do not wear glasses with reflective lenses or face shields during enrollment (or authentication).
• It is recommended to remove headwear during enrollment, otherwise ensure headwear does not cover eyebrows.
• Ensure the facial area between the chin and just above the eyebrows is not obstructed by bangs, face masks, handkerchiefs, etc.
How many face biometric templates need to be created? Only one face biometric template is needed per employee. The enrollment process checks for duplicate enrollments.
How to determine the best place to mount an InTouch DX with TouchFree ID to accommodate tall users and wheelchair
users?
Refer to the following recommended mounting height for various user heights:
• TouchFree ID works well in most indoor lighting conditions and works best in locations where the camera, display, and
employee's faces are not exposed to direct sunlight.
• When the device is mounted at the recommended height, it will support user heights from 4’5”- 6’1” (1.35m - 1.85m).
• 6’1” (1.85m) - 6’4” (1.93m) and taller users may need to crouch during authentication.
• The device will support 50%+ of wheelchair users at this height: seated chin height > 3’7” (1.09m).
• The device must be mounted lower to support wheelchair or other users < 4’5” (1.35m).
Re-Enroll Employee
The manager can re-enroll an employee whose enrollment scores are
unsatisfactory. In this example, the employee is re-enrolling the secondary
finger, which achieved only a Fair enrollment:
- Tap Enroll Employee.
- Swipe the employee's badge or enter the badge ID and tap Enter.
- Tap Yes.
- Tap Secondary. The check mark indicates the primary finger that the employee enrolled.
- Instruct the employee to select any other finger as the secondary finger.
- Go to Scan Finger to continue the enrollment process.
Tap the Un-Enroll Employee icon.

To select the employee, use one of the following methods:
- Swipe the employee's badge
- Enter the employee's badge ID
- Search by employee name
- Browse the employee list
Tap Unenroll.
After successfully unenrolling the employee, you will be prompted to unenroll another employee.
Employee Process
For all transactions, the user is prompted to scan their face or
finger, swipe their badge, or enter their badge ID for identification. If
enabled in the Soft Key settings, the user may then receive a prompt to enter a
PIN.
After the transaction is completed, the screen displays a confirmed
or rejected message, making it easy for the user to know if their transaction
was successful.
